I purchased this radio six months ago and haven't used it in an emergency - so it's a little unfair to be forced to give it a star rating. I wanted to post here though because when I received it I immediately charged it up and placed it in my emergency closet. I just now took it out of the closet to check how well the battery held up after 6 months. I was a little disappointed to find the battery had lost fully half of it's charge in that time. I have not turned it on at all during the 6 months and it is stored in a dark place (no excessive heat or cold). Had there been an emergency I don't know how long it would have worked properly with only a half charge. Certainly there would not have been enough power left to charge my phone and use the radio for any meaningful time. At this rate I will need to recharge the internal battery every two to three months to ensure enough power for emergencies. Yes, I know I can crank it and/or use solar, but I consider those modes only useful for the smallest emergency "top-offs" of the battery. I just wanted to advise people of this issue so you won't put it away for a year or two only to turn it on during a real emergency and find the battery dead. Also, the radio reception for the local NOAA weather channel and other bands is acceptable for emergencies only, but the reception and sound are not good enough for regular use.Seems to work as described however I haven't wound it up manually from it being dead to see if that indeed works. But overall I like it.My son bought this from Amazon for me for Christmas I love it when I got it I was messing around with it most of them you have to take out and charge up in the Sun I had left it on the end table and came back within a very short period and it was charged big surprise best thing everThis AM/FM/NOAA/Weather Alert Radio is loaded with helpful features: 4 power sources including a hand crank, solar panel, 3 AAA batteries (not included) and USB to type c port for built-in rechargeable battery. Also has a flashlight (bright!), 3 mode reading lamp, 3.5mm headphone jack, and SOS alarm. Only used once so far but by turning the hand crank for about 2 minutes, it charged the radio and reading light for over an hour. Haven't tried the solar charger yet or tried to charge a cell phone or power a tablet or anything, but I really only purchased it for emergencies and power outages. Guess I'll have to play with it more. Very happy with the quality, sound, and what I've seen so far. Keep instructions handy to familiarize with all its features ;-)I grabbed this for my grandma so she would have a radio and light during the hurricane season. Her last radio finally died and she felt really disconnected during the last hurricane that passed. When she got it, I went over how to use it with her for about a half hour (early stages of dementia but still pretty high functioning). She LOVES IT! She hasn't even had to call me to ask how to work anything on it. Thank God for something that's elderly friendly but still super functional. While the radio might not have the absolute best speakers, it is clear enough that she can enjoy her music and hear her news. The lights aren't hard for her to operate and she "charges it" all the time because she thinks the solar thing is so cool. You gave an old lady a fabulous toy! I'm grateful! This is a good little emergency radio. Build quality appears to be solid. FM reception is ok, WX (Weather Band) reception is superb. I like the WX Alarm feature... you can receive urgent weather alerts without having to listen to it the entire time. The audio quality is... good enough. You certainly aren't rocking the block party with this, but for a quiet campsite it'll do just fine. I'd say it sounds like a decent smartphone speaker. The built-in flashlight is fairly bright for the size, but I think the "lantern" type light is more useful, as you can choose the brightness and color temperature. A warmer (yellower) light attracts less bugs. I haven't had a chance to test solar charging. Given the panel size, I suspect it's slow but serviceable. Same with the generator crank. You probably won't use these as primary charging methods, but they're welcome options in an emergency radio/light. The USB-C charging port is appreciated, and there's even a USB-out to charge other devices. You can also use AAA batteries to power the radio/lights (but not other devices). Again, options are good. The SOS feature is loud enough to get some attention.Overall, this is a nice little radio that will live in my small camper. I like traveling to places that have no cellular reception, and a WX-band radio will provide good peace of mind when the storm clouds roll in (and maybe some entertainment when the skies clear up).I like my purchase...easier to use that my old one of about 10 yrs ago...didnt see any reason not to like it.
