Way better than the old Peltor worktunes I nursed for 10 years. I love having something to listen to when I need hearing protection including all my noisy 2-cycle gas yard tools. Anything loud I put on my hearing protection and flip on the radio. The Peltors kept out the damaging sounds but would not keep tuned in when I turned my head. Most people with any awareness of these know what I'm talking about and so many Peltor and similar products suffer from the same pathetic tuners. I could never come to terms with the fact that manufacturers get away with selling radio enabled hearing protection with tuners that don't work properly, in this day and age it should seem like a simple thing to make a radio tuner that holds a signal. I never have a problem with my car radio so go figure. SO when I read the positive reviews that the tuner of the Howard Leight actually works I was a little skeptical but the price was actually lower that my original Peltors, which are dirty and the battery compartment door is held on by duct tape. So I ordered these.I have now used them several days outside working on the yard and on various carpentry projects and I must say the claims on the tuning are true. I get mostly stereo reception on even the weakest transmission which is also the station I listen to the most (public radio's music station here) and only when I'm down the bottom of the yard have I noticed the stereo goes to mono but never have I lost signal so far. So in that department they are awesome and I wish I had found these sooner. My reason for 4 stars is that radio works but the fit is an issue. I do not have a large head - 7 1/4 hat size but these just barely fit and have no slack in the band. The ear cups sit just so they are pulling at my ear lobes slightly and there is no margin for movement. Almost seems like they are made for children as there is no adjustment for a larger head. After wearing these for several hours I noticed discomfort so while my old Peltors sucked in the tuning dept. they were never uncomfortable sitting on my head. So heads up Honeywell perhaps your French test models all have small heads over in France but here in the US we must have larger skulls and need more adjustment! Hopefully as the padding breaks in it will provide enough slack to fit more comfortably. Is it possible I got a lemon as far as fit because there really should be some room for adjustment and there is none - I can't pull these down further to align properly with my ears. I own Bose and AKG headphones for inside listening and have no problem with those so what gives Honeywell? The other aspects are good - the preset is nice to have and I no longer have to twiddle with an old school dial tuner. The volume on these is not great but then I should not expect a hearing protection devise to become loud enough to threaten my hearing! As far as sound quality these could be better, there is not much bass and a lot of high end. I tried these with my iPhone and iTunes so I could use the equalizer which helped improve the sound somewhat but I prefer not having a chord and will listen to the radio when working so as not the risk the chord getting snagged. Having a radio that stays tuned to the station and being able to listen to something whilst working especially while mowing my 1'3 acre lawn is much better with these and much more fun than nothing at all but I do wish the fit was better.Great fit and comfortable. Sound quality is great. The headset fits a bit tight on my (large hat size) head, but not to the point of being too tight. It is a fact that to provide hearing protection, a good seal is required. And, they DO provide good hearing protection. I generally use them while operating a walk behind lawn mower. The noise level is reduced to the point that you are aware the mower is operating, but that is about it. The roar of the blade is greatly reduced. Of course, that IS what you should expect with a NRR of 25.The radio reception is Inconsistent. The FM reception in my area is OK. There are many FM stations in my area, and the larger stations come in with very little degradation of sound quality. Fairly decent sound, and in stereo, a nice benefit for a noise reducing headset. The AM reception is generally poor. A large 50,000-watt, clear-channel, AM station has its tower located less than 25 miles (line of sight) from my home. This is one of the few AM stations that the radio receives well enough to be called adequate. However, even on this powerhouse station, the AM still has a LOT of static. I have other AM radios (not noise-reducing headphone-type, though) that work MUCH better on AM. The AM reception is further degraded when the lawn mower is operating. I assume the constant "tic-tic-tic-tic" is interference from the mower's ignition circuit. Don't consider this to be ENTIRELY the fault of the headphones. BUT, the reception isn't crystal clear even when the mower is off. There is some static on AM almost all the time; with the amount of static depending on how you turn your head. For a radio that is designed to be worn on the head, a greater effort to compensate for movement should have been included. I have a much older, non-noise reducing headphone radio, that received this same AM station with MUCH better clarity, EVEN WITH THE LAWN MOWER OPERATING! So it is OBVIOUS that headphone radios can be produced with good quality for both AM and FM.In conclusion, if you are looking for a GOOD noise reducing headset, this one should get your consideration. The FM reception is not perfect, but certainly acceptable. If you don't care about AM reception, then this just might be a really good value for you.Radio works well but the headband does not expand enough for the cups to fit comfortably over my earsExcellent product, comfortable and good sound reception. light weightProduct delivered on time and without any fussGreat sound , could use more adjustment in head strap / earmuffs.Good receptionFast delivery & genuine product.Really great. Small problem with the battery door. Keeps opening up. Had to tape it shut from first use!
